Proper hydration is essential for the overall health for not only humans but your pets too!
What if your cat isn't drinking enough water or maybe they are even drinking too much of the H2O!
Hydration plays a critical role for your cat especially during the summer season with increase in humidity and temperatures that can reach up to triple digits in some areas.
It is easy for your feline friend to get dehydrated during this time of year and with out the proper water intake it can lead to serious health issues for your cat. For instance dehydration can lead to UTI, heat stroke and even heat exhaustion!
So now you might ask how much water does my cat need daily to survive and be healthy?
It all varies based on the age and general health of your feline friend. For example a kitten that is growing will need more water daily than a healthy adult cat.
If your adult cat has any chronic issues that could affect their hydration such as kidney disease or hyperthyroidism, they will require a higher water intake than other healthy adult cats.
Now it is important to observe how much water your cat is taking in daily because if your cat is drinking an excess amount of water it could be a sign that there is an underlying condition.
If you ever observe your cat spending long periods of time at the water bowl or if their intake of water suddenly increases, be sure to contact your vet immediately to make sure that there is no underlying condition such as diabetes and more!
Whether you have a kitten or an elderly cat the daily intake of water your cat needs to take in all depends on the nature of your feline friend.
By observing your cats behaviors, checking with your vet and providing many different hydration sources through out your home will ensure a happy and healthy kitty!
